Soft breezes waft through your cabin as you rise to another turquoise morning. The blues and greens of the ocean seem to mesh together so perfectly that as you gaze into the horizon, you can’t tell where the ocean ends and the sky begins. The crystal clear water seems to twinkle with a million stars, day and night. Is this heaven? The Catamaran is anchored in a secluded cay just a few hundred yards off of a stretch of sand that neither words, nor photographs can do justice to. Nothing but unspoiled beaches framed with steep, green mountains in every direction. Preparing to dive into the 85 degree, shimmering water, you’re certain of one thing...2011 is going to be an epic year!

![]() What Makes "Sailing in the New Year" Epic!
![]() |
Sailing in the New Year has no “set,” itinerary. On this adventure, we’ll keep a loose sailing schedule that will take us around the islands. The daily activities are really up to you. We’ve picked the boats, we’ve picked the location, and now it’s your turn to choose the next adventure! This is the spirit of Sailing In the New Year! Our captain knows all there is to know about the British Virgin Islands, from all the best stretches of sands, to snorkeling and diving spots, and even night life! We’ll provide you with guidelines and suggestions, but the decision is up to you. This is YOUR Epic Adventure!
This is an example of what your Epic Adventure through the British Virgin Islands could look like:
Day 1 (Dec. 27): Fly from JFK to St. Thomas. We’ll take a 45 minute ferry ride from St. Thomas to West End, Tortola and then a short transfer to Garden Marina where our 45 foot, luxury Catamarans Cat will be waiting for us. You’ll be given a tour of the yacht and then its on to cocktails, dinner and a sunset cruise!
Day 2 (Dec. 28): A short sail across the sheltered Sir Frances Drake Channel, brings you to the beauty and splendor of the British Virgin Islands, both above and below the surface, at The Caves on Norman Island. Jump in the water and start snorkeling in what seems like an aquarium, teaming with thousands of the most exotically colorful fish imaginable. Believe it or not, actual pirate treasures have been found here! A five minute motor around the headland brings us into "The Bight" on Norman Island, home of the famous "William Thornton", a floating bar and restaurant known to many as the "Willy T’s.” Time to get this party started! This is one BVI spot that you’ll be telling people about for years to come!
Day 3 (Dec. 29): Freshly brewed coffee, a wonderful breakfast and a plunge off the back deck is the start to our sail along the coast of Peter Island, past Dead Chest Atoll and into Salt Island, all in protected, calm waters. Salt Island is the graveyard for the R.M.S Rhone which sunk off its Eastern point with all on board in 1896. This is one of the most famous wrecks in the world for scuba divers to explore. For those who are qualified, a Dive Master will accompany you for this unforgettable experience! Non-divers will have the memorable opportunity to snorkel over the stern section or take a walk around the shoreline in search of buried treasure. Next we sail to The Baths at Virgin Gorda. Walk through the batholitic granite caves and formations to Devil's Bay where your crew will meet you with a refreshing, packed cooler and your snorkel gear. We enjoy lunch back on the boat and then off we go for an hour's sail up the spectacular coast of Virgin Gorda and The Bitter End Yacht Club. Go ashore after dinner and take in a typical BVI evening with your favorite Rum Punch and Steel Drum Band.
Day 4 (Dec. 30): Today we hoist all the sails and run out our fishing lines for a two hour cruise to the flat coral-sand island of Anegada with its endless white beaches. Feel the "talcum powder" under your feet while you stroll along the deserted beach. Tonight you’ll have the opportunity of dining ashore. The prolific lobster population of this Island ensures a lobster meal second to none. Choose your lobster and watch it sizzle on the beach BBQ in front of the Anegada Reef Hotel or select a meal from the specials of the evening.
Day 5 (Dec. 31 - NYE): Out with the old, and in with the new! Wake up fresh and prepare yourself the most unique New Year’s celebration on the planet! After coffee, we move to Monkey Point on Guana Island for breakfast. A snorkel around the unusual coral outcrops will reveal some marine creatures not often encountered. Make sure you bring your underwater camera! Lunch is at a unique little Islet off the Island of Jost van Dyke. With a good coverage of shade and a few palm trees, walk around this Island in just five minutes and snorkel the surrounding coral reef. Its nearly happy hour time, which means we need to start getting ready for the world famous NYE party at Foxy's! Pin up a garment of clothing with your name written on it in Foxy's bar to join the many hundreds from all over the world! This is perhaps the most famous party in all of the Caribbean. Watch as the yachts fill the harbor, as you bring in the New Year with style!
Day 6 (Jan. 1): White Bay, just around the corner from Foxy's, is a spectacular strip of white sand fringed with coconut palms. Put your dollars into you pocket and swim ashore to the Soggy Dollar Bar, where the original "Painkiller" cocktail was conceived. We spend a leisurely day here before returning to Tortola, checking in at the famous Soppers Hole. This is the last night where you will dine ashore and enjoy late evening entertainment. Enjoy the quiet beaches, take a surfing lesson, and without questions, make sure you stop at Bomba’s Surfside Shack!
Day 7 (Jan. 2): After breakfast, we take a short cruise to soak up our last bit of BVI sun. Joyful memories and newly made friends, we wish everyone farewell until your next, Epic Adventure....

Will I get seasick?
On average, the longest sail that we would do during any one day would be 3- 4 hours. The majority of the time we are sailing short distances (30 – 45 minutes) from point to point, in very well protected waters. We never sail at night and plan to be at ideal anchorages well before dark. Because the catamaran has two hulls, it makes experience very comfortable with little motion in the evenings other than a gentle rocking. If you do have tendencies for getting sea sick, our crew can help you with some fool proof remedies they've learned through the years. There are also over the counter medications available that you can bring to help with any motion sickness.
How should I pack and what sort of clothes should I bring with me?
When packing, keep in mind that storage space is limited and luggage will need to be stored in your cabin along with your personal items. Casual and breezy beach attire is certainly the order of the day on deck. Please avoid packing small appliances such as hairdryers and irons as these items will not be necessary. For evening attire slacks, or a sundress is appropriate for the nights ashore. Shorts and t-shirts are also fine for dining ashore. While aboard the yacht, no shoes are worn. You will want to have a pair of shoes/flip flops for the nights ashore. You may also find aquatic shoes convenient for beachcombing. Be certain to bring along plenty of protection from the sun. Suntan lotion is highly recommended as well as wide-brimmed hats or sailing caps, and loose-fitting cotton cover-ups. A windbreaker jacket is nice to have for the evenings in case you get cold easily. All bath and beach towels are provided.
Will you meet my dietary needs, or have my favorite drink on board?
During the booking process, Epic Adventures will take note of any allergies or special dietary needs to ensure that all of your requirements are met. The Cat 440 comes with a standard stocked bar featuring liquors, soft drinks, wine and beers.
What activities are included in the sailing vacation and which have an additional fee?
All of the equipment for the activities are provided on the yacht such as sea kayaks, snorkeling fins/masks and swim floats. Your preference sheet will ask for details specific to your needs. If you are interested in diving while on charter, we can arrange for a local dive company to meet the boat while on charter. The fee would be paid directly to the diving company at the rate of approximately $90 per dive for certified divers (rate and conditions to be confirmed at the time of diving). You will need to have your valid certification card with you to present to the dive operator.
What is included onboard the yacht?
Just as you would expect in a fine resort hotel, our Yacht will have all the basic necessities including bath towels, linens and basic toiletries. It is recommended that you bring your own personal toiletries such as toothpaste, creams and shampoo.
Will I be able to make and receive telephone calls or have internet access?
Cell phone service will be limited. You can give your family the base telephone number to leave at home in case of emergencies. The base manager will pass on any information to you. The base number is 284-494-0885. In some locations throughout each of our destinations, there will be internet access however it is not a consistent amenity.
What’s the weather like?
Constant trade winds provide a pleasant year ‘round climate. Land and water temperatures in the evenings can vary from 75 - 85 degrees. Diving and snorkeling visibility averages at 100’, but can increase as far as 200’ in the winter months!
How much should we tip the boat crew?
Tipping is not mandatory, but the quality of service should dictate the amount of gratuity you give to the yacht crew.
What travel documents do I need?
All U.S. citizens must have a valid passport. Other citizens should check entry requirements with their home country’s consulate.
What is the currency in BVI?
Surprisingly enough, BVI works off of US dollars. US cash is accepted everywhere and most establishments except major credit cards..
